Smyths Daleside

Located at Ballindrait, just outside Lifford in Co. Donegal, Smyths Daleside is the leading animal feed manufacturer in the North West of Ireland. Milling since 1865 Smyths Daleside have developed a renowned reputation for manufacturing the highest quality animal feeds for both ruminant and monogastric animals.

We source the highest quality raw materials both locally and internationally to produce the highest quality dairy, beef, sheep, pig, poultry and horse feed specially formulated to meet the needs of our customers, ensuring maximum animal performance at all times.

1865

Robert Smyths & Sons, Animal Feed Millers was founded at Canal Basin Mills, Strabane in 1865 by Robert Smyth from Cookstown, Co. Tyrone.

1926

A flax mill was purchased and became known as Swilly Valley Mills. Porridge Oats was produced there and distributed throughout the North West.

1940s

The mill phased out of oatmeal production and concentrated on production of animal feed compounds. Smyths were the first firm to manufacture ‘Pelleted’ animal feed in Donegal.

1995

Donegal Creameries purchased Swilly Valley Mills and continued producing feed until it was badly damaged by a fire.

2000

A nearby mill was purchased in Ballindrait, Daleside Mill, and production continued under the brand name Smyths Daleside Animal Feeds.

2019

Fane Valley Co-operative Society purchased the business. The business is now run as a division of Fane Valley and has been rebranded as Smyths Daleside.

Accredited by Universal Feed Assurance Scheme (UFAS), Bord Bia, Irish Grain Assurance Scheme (IGAS), Tesco and the Irish Organic Association we are committed to producing the highest quality animal feeds.

Our onsite laboratories are equipped with the latest technology for testing raw materials at intake and all products during manufacture. We continually focus on and invest in the latest testing equipment and technology to ensure that all raw materials and finished products meet stringent quality standards.

Logistics

At Smyths Daleside we operate our own fleet of modern and efficient vehicles allowing us to offer a high-quality delivery service to our customers across the North West of Ireland.

Our TASCC approved fleet consists of both rigid and articulated vehicles to suit all types of farmyards and our team of professional, dedicated drivers work hard in all weather conditions to ensure on-time delivery and customer satisfaction.
